Greenville College Presidential Inauguration November 7

Greenville College will inaugurate Dr. Ivan Filby during a special ceremony on campus Nov. 7. The inauguration ceremony is part of a day full of events to celebrate Filby’s installment as the school’s 12th president.

The inauguration ceremony will take place at 1 p.m. on Nov. 7 in H.J. Long Gymnasium and includes an address from guest speaker Randy Ataide, executive director of the Fermanian Business and Economic Institute at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego, Calif. A reception will follow in the Crum Recreation Center.

At 7 p.m. Dr. Richard Bauckham, a New Testament scholar from Cambridge, will share a lecture titled “Faith in an Age of Ecological Destruction” in the Whitlock Music Center. The evening concludes with a vespers service at 9:30 p.m in the Whitlock Music Center. These events are free and open to the public.

Filby began his work as Greenville College president in July after the Board of Trustees unanimously affirmed the recommendation of the presidential search committee. Filby began his teaching career as a lecturer in Business Studies at the University of Dublin: Trinity College (1989-1996), during which time he created and oversaw 30 international partnerships. Promoted to director of International Student Affairs (1996-2004), he managed the university’s 150 exchange partnerships, as well as the recruitment of students from outside of the European Union.

Led by God’s call to shape the lives of Christian college students and equipped with extensive international business experience, Filby left behind a highly-esteemed position in Dublin, Ireland and moved his family to Greenville in January of 2005. During his tenure at Greenville College, Filby developed numerous new programs, directed AgapeFest, and served as faculty assembly moderator. Filby was honored with the 2010 W. Richard Stephens Outstanding Faculty Award. Filby served one year as dean of the Fermanian School of Business at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego where he also developed new programs and strengthened relationships with business alumni.

Filby completed his Doctor of Philosophy in Management and his Bachelor of Science in Managerial and Administrative Studies degrees at the prestigious Aston University in the United Kingdom. He also completed a Master of Arts at the University of Dublin in Ireland and a Master of Arts in Evangelism Studies at the University of Sheffield (Cliff College), also located in the United Kingdom.
