Lady Panther Softball Gets Two Wins at Evangel

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.-- The softball team redeemed themselves from their Friday loss at the Evangel tournament, beating both Culver-Stockton and Cardinal Stritch on Saturday.

The women outplayed Culver-Stockton in a close 4-3 game earlier in the day. The Panthers scoredone run in the first and third innings and brough in two in the seventh. Shannon Elbe and Jessica Laubecher each had 2 RBIs. Mattie Fairchild hit a double, and Shannon Elbe had two home runs to get the Panthers on the board. Ashley Woodrome pitched the entire game for the Panthers, facing 30 batters and only allowing 8 hits.

After their close win, the team went on to play Cardinal Stritch later in the day. They were victorious once again, this time with a score of 8-4. They scored three runs in the first and third innings and two in the fifth. Andrea Martin had a double and a home run giving her2 RBIs in the game. Jessica Laubecher had a home run and 2 RBIs for GC, and Danielle Helms hit a home run for 3 RBIs for the Panthers. Laubecher was on the mound for the Panthers, allowing only 7 hits from the 31 batters she faced.

These wins bring GC's record to 2-4. They will play again Monday, March 18 at home.
