Martin Tabbed as Greenville's Head Softball Coach and Senior Women's Administrator

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Greenville College has announced the hiring of Tenequa Martin to serve as head softball coach and senior women's administrator. Martin succeeds former head softball coach Brian Reinhard who served 10 years in the position. Martin will follow former assistant softball coach Erica Ritter in the position of senior women's administrator. Martin's duties officially begin August 1, 2011.

Martin comes to Greenville following one year as assistant softball coach at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville where the team returned to action after a four-year hiatus. The team won 18 games in the 2011 season and qualified for the MCAC postseason tournament.

"I am very excited about this opportunity. It is truly a blessing to be joining the Greenville College family," said Martin.  "From the moment I stepped on campus, I knew it was a community that I wanted to be a part of. There is great tradition not only within the softball program but the athletic department as well, and I am ready to not only continue that tradition but to build upon it."

Martin, a 2010 graduate of Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., earned a bachelor's degree in business administration and finance. She played softball for the Scots over three years and ranks first among Lyon's single season and career statistical leaders in career games, career home runs, single-season home runs, career wins, career pitching starts, career complete games, career shutouts, career saves, career innings pitched, single-season pitching starts, single-season complete games, single-season shutouts, single-season saves, and single-season innings pitched. She played first base and was a pitcher.

"We are pleased that Tenequa is coming to G.C. She comes with excellent recommendations, and she is going to bring the energy of a young coach to our program," said Doug Faulkner, director of athletics. "In addition, her experiences as a pitcher and infielder were critical credentials. Most of all, we felt Tenequa was a great mission fit for G.C."

The Greenville softball team completed the 2011 season with an overall record of 14-23 and qualified for the SLIAC tournament where they were fourth place finishers. Over his 10 year tenure, Reinhard's teams won 14 or more games from 2005-11 after winning no more than 10 games in a season from 1998-04. Reinhard concluded his coaching career in second place on GC's all-time career softball coaches wins list with 130 victories. Reinhard will stay at Greenville College in an administrative capacity as assistant dean for the school of education.
