Men's basketball's Daniel named Jostens Trophy finalist

Published: April 13, 2021

Greenville College's Tim Daniel has been named a 2016 Jostens Trophy Finalist, one of just 10 student-athletes from NCAA Division III to receive the honor. The Jostens Trophy is awarded to an outstanding NCAA Division III mens basketball player who excels on the court, in the classroom, and in the community.

Daniel, a senior forward on the Greenville College men's basketball team, was one of 10 finalists announced in the award process. The review board received a record number of candidates from the original pool.

Daniel averaged 19.0 points per game this season, knocking down 124 three-point field goals and finishing second in the nation in three-pointers per game.

Daniel was named St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) First Team All-Conference this season after helping his program make their first postseason appearance since the 2011 season.

This marks the second consecutive year a SLIAC Men's Basketball player has been a finalist for the NCAA Division III national award. This season marks the 19th presentation of the awards, with the inaugural trophies bestowed in 1998.

The Salem Rotary Club's Jostens Trophy Committee employs a numerical rating to narrow the list of finalists so that the decision can be made on the most objective basis possible.

The finalists continue through the review process, with a national selection committee of 32 individuals charged with determining the two winners of the 2016 Josten Trophy honors.
