GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's soccer team suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Spring Arbor on Saturday night. Despite what appeared as a one-way contest, Greenville had several scoring chances.

Senior Richie Hershkowitz had Greenville's goal, scoring in the 50th minute. It narrowed a 3-0 halftime advantage for Spring Arbor to just two goals.

"In the second half we changed some things up, and our team responded really well," said head coach Chris Swift. "We created some good opportunities and got an early goal, and we put a little doubt in Spring Arbor's minds. We competed well and hard all game long."

Spring Arbor added their final goal in the 68th minute.

Hershkowitz contributed three shots for Greenville, and Caleb Mulholland had two shots.

Goalkeeper Ian Hodge was busy as he faced 12 shots, eight on goal, and recorded four saves.

"You don't often come away from a 4-1 defeat feeling satisfied in the performance, but we do tonight," said Swift. "I thought we put together a good first half followed by a fantastic second half."

"We were 3-0 down at half but played really well and defended well too. We had numbers behind the ball for their first goal, but the guy parked it from 25 yards. The second one, we had a good challenge on the header, their guy just jumped a little higher and got just enough on his header, and the third one came off an unlucky deflection."

"I'm excited because we can see the pieces starting to fall into place, and once we gat them all there, we are going to be exciting and very tough to play against."

The Panthers (1-2) travel to Rose-Hulman on Wednesday night.
