ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The men's soccer team fell behind early and couldn't rebound as Washington - St. Louis earned a 3-0 win over Greenville on Tuesday night.

Jack Westscored the Bears' first goal just 41 seconds into the game.

"We took one on the chin tonight," said head coach Chris Swift. "We need to learn from our mistakes and continue our improvement."

"At this level it requires 90 minutes of concentration, and we came out just a little flat and gave up a soft goal 41 seconds in."

"Good teams are going to punish you. After we gave up the goal, I thought we settled nicely and started to come back into the game, but it was right as we were putting some pressure on that our concentration slipped and they capitalized on another mistake."

The Bears maintained the one-goal lead until the 25th minute when Kevin Maedomari chased it down and fired a shot past Ian Hodge to make it 2-0 in favor of the Bears.

Andrew Zingone headed in a corner kick from West to extend WashU's lead to 3-0 in the second half.

Washington finished with a 14-6 shot advantage in the game.

"We challenged the guys at halftime to come out and up the tempo in the second half and find a way back into the game," said Swift. "The guys responded excellently."

"The great news is we learned a lot tonight and we will be better for the experience. We have a chance to play again on Thursday and put it right!"

Greenville fell to 0-1 and host Robert Morris - Springfield on Thursday at 7 p.m.
