GREENVILLE, Ill. After missing the 2014 season due to injury, fifth year senior Elliot Thompson dreamed of the moment he experienced today. Thompson put the game-winning goal in the net Saturday afternoon in the second overtime period to lift Greenville to a 1-0 shutout victory over Hendrix.

Men’s soccer lifted by Thompson’s double-overtime winnerThe Panthers and Warriors were evenly matched, each posting 13 shots in the contest.

Thompson and Tyler Earick each attempted four shots, and Caleb Mulholland assisted Thompsons game-winning goal.

Goalkeeper Ian Hodge added his second consecutive shutout with three saves.

"The guys stepped up today to win a very tough game," said head coach Chris Swift. "We knew we were going to need everybody to step up especially as we had played less than 24 hours earlier."

"The first half was fairly even, but we brought Parker on to start the second half and he provided a spark to the team and raised the level of everyone."

"We created some good chances and hit the bar in the first overtime, and then ET stepped up and won it for us."

"Two clean sheets in the past two games shows we are putting things together and just in time as we start conference play next week. This group has persevered through a very rigorous non conference schedule and I am very excited as it appears that we are peaking at the right time."

The Panthers (3-6) travel to Iowa Wesleyan next Saturday in the SLIAC opener.
