GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The men's soccer team got a game-tying goal from Jacob Jones with eight seconds left in regulation play and then received the game winner from Richie Hershkowitz in the second minute of overtime as the Panthers eked out a conference win over Blackburn on Wednesday night.

Ben Linder and Frank Dalton assisted on Jones' goal, and Jordan York received credit for the assist on the game-winner.

The Panthers outshot Blackburn by nearly a three-to-one margin, racking up 26 shots to the Beaver's 9.

York, Peter Plakorus, and Brent Lehr had two shots on goal a piece.

Greenville's goalkeeper Thomas Crown totaled three saves.

The Blackburn goal came early in the game, as Mikey Stephenson scored in the 18th minute.

"The character and belief we showed tonight was incredible," said head coach Chris Swift. "We threw everything we had at them and to get the tying goal is unbelievable. We talk about CRUMP (Christian, Relentless, Unified, Mentally Tough, and Positive), and we don't get that result tonight without being CRUMP."

"Credit has to be given to Blackburn. Coach Steinkuehler has done a great job, and Blackburn is going to be competing at the top of the conference in the coming years."

"I'm proud of the guys and their mentality, but we have to come back to earth quickly because we have another huge battle coming up on Saturday."

The Panthers (6-6-1, 2-1 SLIAC) host Principia on Saturday at 7 p.m.
