Men’s Track and Field Takes Fourth at NCCAA Outdoor Championships

ROME, Ga. The NCAAs nationally ranked No. 11 Greenville College mens track and field team competed Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at Shorter University in the NCCAA outdoor championships. The men placed fourth of the 24 teams competing as Greenville had two national championship performances. Greenville tallied 73 points as they gathered 15 scoring marks.

Winning national titles for the Panthers were senior Josh Kuusisto in the hammer throw and the 4x100 meter relay which included Bruce Gray, Josh Garcia, Dmitri Holman, and Jonah Peoples.

Kuusisto used a throw of 58.53 meters to take the championship in the hammer throw. The 4x100 relay team completed their event in 41.24 seconds to win by three hundredths of a second over second place Shorter.

Bruce Gray earned second place in two individual events as he was second in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes with times of 10.42 and 21.04 seconds, respectively.

The 4x400 relay team of Garcia, Branden Niehaus, Treyvon Manning, and Gray placed third in 3:16.24, and Seth Martin was third in the javelin throw (48.11 meters).

Fourth place awards were obtained by Logan Nelson in the pole vault as he cleared four meters and the 4x800 relay team of Manning, Josh Dees, Parker Wray, and Ray Hingson (7:50.53).

The lone Greenville fifth place honor went to Holman in the 100-meter dash (10.78 seconds), and one Panther entry earned sixth place as Jarrid Williams leapt 13.35 meters in the triple jump.

G.C. took seventh in three events as Peoples ran 22.21 seconds in the 200-meter dash, Dees completed the 1500 meter run in 4.01.20, and Manning raced to a time of 55.59 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles.

Bryan Waugh was eighth in the discus as he threw the implement 44.32 meters.

Through the NCCAA championships, four Panther competitors are rated in the top 10 in the NCAA Division III. Gray has posted the nations best time in the 200 and the second best time in the 100. Greenvilles 4x100 meter relay team of Garcia, Gray, Peoples, and Holman is also second. Kuusisto finds himself eighth in the hammer throw.

The Panthers return to action at Louisville, Ky., on Friday, May 9.
