Men's Soccer Battles Spalding to 1-1 Draw

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The men's soccer team opened defense of their SLIAC tournament championship with a 1-1 tie at Spalding on Saturday. Aaron Mulholland posted Greenville's only goal in the opening seconds of the second half.

Mulholland's impressive goal came just 20 seconds into the second half when he shot a rocket from outside the 18 yard line to bring the score to 1-0 GC. The score remained 1-0 until Spalding's Julio De Leon scored with just five minutes left in the game. This brought the final score at the end of regulation toa 1-1 tie.

The game then headed into overtime, with niether team able to get a goal after 10 minutes. With the score still tied, the game went into a second overtime period. GC had 3 shots in the peroid, but could not put the ball past the Spalding goalkeeper and the match ended 1-1.

Greenville outshot Spalding 24-9 as Spalding's goalkeeper totaled 14 saves.

The Panthers (5-4-1, 0-0-1 SLIAC) continue their season Monday as they travel to Benedictine-Springfield to play at 7p.m.
