Men's Soccer Beats Alma, Wins Tournament

The GC men beat Alma 1-0 to win the Purple and Gold Classic Tournament this weekend.

After a first half full of opportunities for both teams, the squads headed into halftime with a 0-0 tie. The Panthers answered the call for a goal in the 75th minute when senior Dan Ruder put one in the net. Ruder fired a shot after receiving a great pass from fellow senior, Nathan Mayberry. The lone goal proved to be the game winner for Greenville and they gained the 1-0 victory. Goalkeeper, Thomas Crown, earned the shutout.

This win, coupled with their 3-0 victory over tournament host Defiance College yesterday, made them the men's tournament champions. The Panthers brought home their first trophy of the year and proved that they will be the team to beat this year.

The men return to Greenville with a record of 2-0. They hit the pitch again on Wednesday for their home opener against Rose-Hulman at 7:00p.m.
