Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. Sophomore Sean McQuillans goal in the 16th minute proved be the clincher as the Panthers pushed past visiting FU on Saturdays Senior Day at Francis Field.

With the conference win Greenville mens soccer moves to 11-5-3 (6-1 SLIAC) and currently sits atop the SLIAC standings with 36 points.

McQuillans game-winner came off a well-struck free kick from the 20-yard mark that sailed past the Fontbonne keeper and would stand as the matchs only goal. Senior David Dunlop added four shots to help pace the Panther offense in the 1-0 affair.

Senior GK Nathan Haas turned in a clutch performance in net, registering the shutout and five saves in his 90:00 minutes of play.

Greenvilles defense was key in the tightly contested SLIAC battle as GCs back four controlled the opposing offensive zone. Our defensemen really worked hard to close gaps all game, commented assistant coach Jon Fields. We were able to hold the lead and that is mostly contributed to the way our backs dictated the pitch.

The seniors recognized on Saturday included David Becks, Dan Ringkamp, Joshua Cranston, Daniel Taylor, Craig Cobi Allen, David Dunlop, Tim Johnson, Steve Beam, and Nathan Haas.

Our senior men have helped put together a 56-23-10 overall record, while posting a 33-4 SLIAC record, stated head coach Brian McMahon. Outside of their athletic accomplishments, I am most proud of the leadership and team chemistry that they have brought to our program. They are an irreplaceable group of men.

GC men's soccer will return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 25 as they travel to Elsah, Ill. and wrap up regular season play against SLIAC rival Principia.
