Published: April 13, 2021

MONMOUTH, Ill. -- The men's soccer team continued their success with a 3-1 win over Monmouth College on Saturday.

The Panthers came out on fire, owning most of the possession. In the 14th minute, junior David Dunlop (Coleraine, Northern Ireland) broke free on the left flank and slotted a perfect pass to the foot of junior Daniel Taylor (Villa Ridge, Mo.) who then placed the ball past the Monmouth keeper for the first goal of the match.

Throughout first half, the Panthers had many scoring opportunities and in the 41st minute Greenville was awarded a penalty for a handball on the goal line. Senior Terrance Cosby (Jefferson City, Mo.) calmly stepped up to the challenge and finished a brilliant penalty kick to the top right corner of the net. The Panthers would enter halftime with a 2-0 lead.

As the Panthers entered the second half they continued with strong possession. In the 49th minute, the Panthers earned a corner kick. Dunlop stepped up to take it and bent the ball directly in off the back post for a brilliant goal extending the lead to 3-0. Monmouth would later score in the 75th minute off a rebound save from freshman Thomas Crown (Crestwood, Mo.).

Junior Nathan Haas (Belleville, Ill.) would be credited for the win with one save with Crown contributing to the success.

The Panthers improve to 4-2 on the season and host Oakland City on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 4:30 p.m. at the John Strahl Athletic Complex.
