Men's Soccer Loses Overtime Battle to Covenant

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga.--The Panthers traveled to Georgia to take on Covenant College and after a 2-0 halftime lead, GC fell to the Scots 3-2 in overtime.

The first half of the game was all Greenville. In the 4th minute of the game, GC's Sean McQuillan headed a throw-in from Robert Wright, putting the ball in the back of the net and bringing the game's score to 1-0 Greenville. Sixteen minutes later, GC got another goal when Spencer Pulliam passed the ball to Wright who scored the second goal of the game. This brought GC up 2-0 and it stayed there heading into halftime.

In the second half, it was Covenant's turn to take control. In the game's 60th minute, Hunter Harrison scored off of an assist from David Taaffe. In the 72nd minute, Greenville gave up a foul in the box and Covenant's Chris Pifer finished the PK to bring the game to a 2-2 tie.

Since the game remained 2-2 at the end of regulation, the match headed into overtime. The back-and-forth battle came to a close with less than 2 minutes left in the first overtime period when the Scots' Matt Hudnut shot the ball into the net to bring the game to it's final score, 3-2 Covenant.

Greenville goalkeeper Thomas Crown recorded 4 saves. Wright and GC junior, Jacob Krisher were credited with 3 shots each.

The Panthers play another away match tomorrow when they take on the Sewanee Tigers at 7p.m.
