Men’s Tennis Serves Up 9-0 Sweep Over Illinois College on Senior Day

Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. Greenville seniors Todd Ganton, Michael Read, and Ian Wolf were honored on Tuesday night amidst an 9-0 team effort that volleyed the Panthers past IC at the Scott J. Burgess Tennis Complex.

The club owned play from the outset, taking all three-doubles matches and following that performance with a 6-0 tear in singles competition. In the senior spotlight, Read did his damage in the No. 3 doubles spot, as the three-year senior joined forces with fellow upperclassmen Ganton to win 8-0. Read also grabbed a win at No. 6 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 decision.

Wolf turned in a pair of wins at both the doubles and singles level. The Greenville, Ill. native paired with freshman Andrew Herlein to post an 8-2 victory in No. 1 doubles, and then duplicated his performance with a 6-0, 6-2 ousting of his opponent in No. 1 singles.

It felt good for us seniors to grab our last home match as members of the squad, commented the four-year senior Ganton. We now shift our sights to this weekends conference tournament and will try to make a splash as the four seed.

Mens tennis travels to Forrest Park in St. Louis, Mo. on Friday and Saturday to compete in the 2012 SLIAC Tournament. The Panthers enter post-season play as the No. 4 seed and will compete against Fontbonne University in Fridays first round play.
