Published: April 13, 2021

CARLINVILLE, Ill. --The baseball team faced Blackburn in a doubleheader on Wednesday and shut them out in both games. Greenville won the first game 13-0 and took the second game 9-0. The game one performance by Tyler Mitchell saw the senior lefthander earn the Panthers first no-hitter in nearly 20 years.

Mitchell scattered four walks and piled up seven strikeouts in lowering his season ERA to 3.86 in a team-high 42 innings pitched. The last Panther no-hitter was hurled by Ryan Brisbin on April 6, 1995.

Greenville started the day off with five runs in the first inning. The game was scoreless until the fifth when Greenville added four more and then went on to tally 13 by the end of the seventh. Tommie Brown and Jared Souhrada had three RBIs, Shane Olmsted had two, and Tim Osborne, Trevor Montgomery, Jared Storment, and Hunter Bryan each added one.

The next game was just as explosive offensively for Greenville. Bryan had four RBIs, Dathan Berning came in with two, and Souhrada and Osborne ended with one. Tyler Pilcher pitched six innings for Greenville, who held Blackburn scoreless with only three hits in the second contest.

The Panthers now have a 17-15 record with a 14-8 record in SLIAC play. Greenville starts a non-conference series with Washington University on Friday, April 25, with a home game at 6 p.m.
