Panthers Offense Soars in Home Opener Win

Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The baseball team scored 13 runs in their home opener, beating Illinois College 13-9. For the Panthers, seven runs came in the first inning.

The Panthers started off the offensive explosion in the first with a two run homer from Jared Storment after two outs. Dylan Bones hit to third base resulted in an error which allowed Jared Souhrada and C.J. Opp unearned runs. With two men still on, Dathan Berning homered to center field for three runs, and the Panthers led after the first 7-1.

Greenville added three more in the third. Illinois College only scored once in each of those innings. Illinois College had two runs in the fourth and then outscored Greenville 5-3 in the sixth and seventh innings.

Altogether Tim Osborne had one RBI, Mitchell Cernek, Storment, and Dalton McFarland had two, and Berning finished with 4 RBIs.

By bouncing back after a tough spring break trip with this win, the Panthers are now 3-7 on the season. They begin conference play on Saturday, March 22, in a double header at Spalding.
