GREENVILLE, Ill. – GC Softball welcomed SLIAC foe MacMurray College to Lady Panther Field on Monday to play for a cure for cancer in an afternoon double-dip. Sporting the breast cancer awareness “pink” helmets and jerseys, Greenville convincingly handled MC 4-0 in the opener, and then shelled the Lady Highlanders 17-4 in the capper.

Greenville’s ace Lindsey Schuberth dealt a gem from the mound in game one, picking up the win. Schuberth notched the complete game shutout, going seven innings and suffocating the MacMurray bats in the 4-0 win.

The nightcap saw GC jump out to an early margin and never look back. Offensively, Greenville had their foot on the gas, combining for 17 total runs, the most by the team this season.

Junior pitcher Angela Sheets claimed the win in game two.

In support of “Beat Cancer With A Bat”, donations were collected at the gate, and a promotional bake sale was held behind the home dugout, from which all proceeds were donated to NFCR. A silent auction for a pink softball helmet and a ball signed by the 2010-2011 team was also featured at the event.

“We are proud to take part in ‘Beat Cancer with a Bat’ and make a contribution to the fight against cancer,” commented Erica Ritter, Assistant Softball Coach. “This fundraiser is a great way for softball players and coaches to utilize our passion for the sport to help save lives. It’s a powerful testament to the fact that anyone can help fight cancer just by being creative with their talents and getting involved.”

Greenville Softball will next hit the diamond on Friday, April 22, as they play Principia College in a double header at Elsah, Ill.
