Published: April 13, 2021

MEMPHIS, Tenn. The Greenville softball team departed Friday for Memphis where they took on Rhodes and Berry to kick off their 2011 spring break road trip. GC stumbled in day one as they were edged 4-3 by Rhodes in the opener and dropped the second game 17-8 to Berry.

In game one, the Lady Panthers were led by freshman Sarah Gerig. Gerig, in her only appearance, went 1-for-1 at the plate with two RBI and a run scored.

GC pitcher Lindsey Schuberth was dealt the loss in the contest, pitching six innings while giving up three runs on seven hits. Schuberth faced 27 batters and struck out three in the losing effort.

Game two pitted Greenville against Berry, and through three innings the GC squad only trailed by two. However, an explosive 13-run fifth inning by Berry put the game out of reach and dealt the Lady Panthers their second loss of the early road trip.

At the plate Greenvilles efforts were spearheaded by freshman Mattie Fairchild. Fairchild hit 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored in the loss.

On the mound, Schuberth again picked up the loss facing ten batters in the relief role.

GC will continue play Monday, March 14, as they head further south to Cocoa Beach, Fla., where they will face off against Minnesota Crookston and Minnesota St. Moorhead in day two action.
