EUREKA, Ill. Greenville Softball reached .500 in conference and clinched a birth in the SLIAC Tournament on Monday as they split an afternoon double header with Eureka College. GC dropped game one 7-4, but bounced back behind an impressive performance from freshman Mattie Fairchild and claimed the capper 6-5.

Lindsey Schuberth was charged with her 11th loss of the season, giving up six earned runs on 12 hits in the 7-4 loss.

In game two GC was able to find their bats early, posting five runs through four innings and holding a two run lead heading into the fifth. Eureka answered in the sixth inning with a two run rally to tie the game heading into the seventh and final inning. With the game on the line the Lady Panthers added the game-winning run to seal up the SLIAC birth and win the conference matchup 6-5.

Fairchild shined in the game, batting 3-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBI. She also earned the win on the mound, pitching four and two-thirds innings with two earned on two hits.

The Lady Panthers, now 10-18 (8-8 SLIAC), will next take the diamond tomorrow as they travel to St. Louis to play Washington University in an out of conference matchup.
