Softball falls in NCAA opening round

ANGOLA, Ind. - The softball team stayed in the game against Trine on Thursday but came up on the short end of a 5-3 final score.

Trine opened the scoring in the bottom of the second with two runs, and Greenville matched them with a two-run double by Andrea Martin in the top of the fifth.

Trine tacked on three runs in the bottom of the sixth to gain a 5-2 lead.

Greenville's bats woke up again in the top of the seventh as Tiffany Samsoe recorded an RBI double.

Samsoe recorded three hits for Greenville. Bryn McKie and Laney Thacker each had two hits.

Brianna Anderson pitched a complete game as she went six innings, allowing five runs on six hits and four walks.

The Lady Panthers (23-21-1) will face Chicago on Friday.
