Softball Kicks Off Season 0-2 In Arkansas

BATESVILLE, Ark. Thesoftball team started their 2011 season on Friday, taking part in a four-game road trip and competing on the campus of Lyon College. The ladies fell to 0-2 in first day action, losing 8-7 to Hannibal-LaGrange and 17-3 to Central Baptist.

In game one against Hannibal-LaGrange, the Lady Panthers battled hard but fell 8-7 despite several impressive early season performances. Headlining the ladies' efforts were freshman Mattie Fairchild and senior Lesley Holloway. Fairchild went 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI, while Holloway batted 2-for-4 and blasted a three-run home run on her way to a three RBI day.

Game two pitted Greenville against the defending NCCAA national champion Central Baptist College.Though the Lady Panthers battled hard, they were little match for the Lady Mustangs whowon 17-3. Senior Rachel Brewer led the ladies in the losing effort going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

The Lady Panthers will prepare for day two action as they take the field against Benedictine at 10a.m. and host Lyon College at 2 p.m. in the final games of the road trip.
