Softball loses pair of games on Tuesday

CLERMONT, Fla. -- The softball team lost to No. 16 St. Thomas 4-3 and 4-1 to Hope as they fell to 1-3 on their spring trip.

In the day's first game, Greenville held their own with a nationally regarded opponent as the game was tied 3-3 through four innings.

St. Thomas opened the day's scoring with two runs in the top of the second and a single run in the top of the third. Greenville plated three runs in the bottom of the third to tie the game.

In the three run third, Greenville loaded the bases with singles and Tiffany Samsoe pushed across one run with a single before Becca Oldham produced a two-run single.

St. Thomas added a run in the top of the fifth.

Bryn McKie went 2-for-4, and Shelby Cash was 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Hannah Burger went the distance in her complete game pitching effort. She hurled all seven innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on 12 hits.

Greenville's second game of the day saw the Lady Panthers take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Oldham doubled and Shannon Elbe drove her in with a one-out double.

Hope answered Greenville's tally with a run in the bottom of the second, two runs in their half of the third, and a single run in the fourth.

Oldham picked up the loss in the day's second game. In six innings, she allowed four runs, three earned, on seven hits and two walks. She struck out two.

The Lady Panthers (2-4) face Hamilton and Stevenson on Thursday after a Wednesday off day.
