Softball Rolls 15-4 over Eureka

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- Eureka College didn't put up much of a fight on Wednesday, as the softball team cruised to a blowout 15-4 win in six innings in Greenville.

The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to five lead changes in the game.

The Panthers finally managed to grab the lead after a strong fourth inning. The Panthers went up for good on a grand slam home run by Andrea Martin off Jodi Bowen, plating Tiffany Samsoe, Shannon Elbe and Mattie Fairchild.

Fairchild racked up five RBIs on two hits for the Panthers. She singled in the fifth inning and homered in the sixth inning.

Hannah Burger recorded the win for the Panthers. She allowed four runs over six innings. She struck out four, walked one and surrendered seven hits.

Bowen took the loss for Eureka College. She allowed 15 runs in 5 2/3 innings, walked three and struck out four.

The Panthers answered Eureka College's top inning with one run of their own in the first. The Panthers scored on an error.

After a quick strike from Eureka College, the Panthers responded with four runs in the fifth. The Panthers scored on an RBI single by Elbe, an RBI single by Bryn McKie, an RBI single by Fairchild, and an RBI single by Samsoe.

It didn't take long for the Panthers to answer as they scored five runs of their own in the sixth. The Panthers ended the game on a grand slam home run by Fairchild.

The Lady Panthers upped their record to 10-5 (3-0 SLIAC).
