Softball splits conference games against Webster

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The softball team split a doubleheader against Webster on Saturday at home. Greenville rallied late but dropped the first game 12-11 and came-from-behind to take an 8-7 win in game two.

Game 1 Recap

Nine hits weren't enough for the Panthers as it lost 12-11.

Laney Thacker racked up two RBIs on one hit for the Panthers. She homered in the seventh inning.

Brianna Anderson was charged with the loss. She allowed eight runs in three innings, walked five and struck out one.

The bottom of the first saw the Panthers take an early lead, 1-0. Bryn McKie singled to ignite the Panthers' offense. A stolen base then moved McKie from second to third.

The lead stayed with Webster after the fourth, when it scored seven runs.

After Webster crossed the plate twice in the top of the fifth, Greenville faced their final three outs but battled back to tighten the score to 10-8 with a seven-run inning.

Webster added two runs in the top of the seventh to gain a four run advantage, but Greenville rallied again with three runs and left the winning run in scoring position as the game ended.

Game 2 Recap

The Panthers and Gorloks traded the lead six times, but the Panthers ended up on top with an 8-7 win in seven innings when Laney Thacker bombed a three-run game-winning homer.

Thacker racked up four RBIs on two hits for the Panthers.

Brianna Anderson got the win in relief for the Panthers. Anderson pitched one inning and allowed one run.

The game was scoreless until Webster broke the ice with one run in the fourth.

The Panthers scored four runs of their own in the fifth. Greenville scored on an RBI double by Danielle Helms, an RBI double by Tobiason, an RBI double by Samsoe, and an RBI single by Thacker.
