Softball Splits Pivotal Double-Dip in Battle of SLIAC Elite

Published: April 13, 2021

ST. LOUIS, Mo. Greenville College softball left St. Louis even on Friday night, as they continue to share first place in the SLIAC with Webster University after splitting a double-header 2-1, 6-0 against the Gorlocks.

GC softball, 12-14 (6-2 SLIAC), continues to post impressive performances, winning 11 of their last 14 contests. Freshman Jessica Laubecher, on the heels of her perfect game against Eureka and SLIAC POW honors, started both games in Friday nights double-dip and earned the win in the opener but was charged the loss in game two.

Laubecher again dished out a pitching gem in game ones 2-1 victory, as the freshman hurler inched perilously close to another flawless performance. Websters Taylor Gibbs hit a homer in the fifth inning that broke up Laubechers pursuit of another perfect game,a no-hitter, and shutout in one swing.

In game two it was the Panthers that found themselves on the business end of a stingy effort on the mound. GC managed only one hit in the 6-0 shutout that was applied by the Webster ace. Laubecher was relieved at the midway point by senior Angela Sheets, but the damage was already applied by Gorlock bats and the deficiet secured.

Greenville softball will return to action on Thursday, April 12 as they aim to take down SLIAC power Fontbonne at home with first pitch of the scheduled double-header set for 4:00 pm.
