Softball Sweeps Principia 8-0, 5-4; Schuberth Deals One-Hitter

Published: April 13, 2021

GREENVILLE, Ill. The Lady Panthers kicked of the first of a four game home stand with a double-header sweep of SLIAC opponent Principia on Thursday night. Junior pitcher Lindsey Schuberth tossed a one-hit shut out to blank PC 8-0 in the opener, and Greenville closed the double-dip with a late-inning three-run rally to claim the win in the capper 5-4.

In the opener GC found their bats early, scoring seven runs in the first three innings on the way to the 8-0 shut out. Offensively Angie Doherty and Mattie Fairchild headlined the ladies efforts in the win. Doherty batted 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, and Fairchild went 3-for-4 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI respectively.

Game two was a much closely contested battle with the Lady Panthers using a three-run eighth inning rally to push past Principia and complete the sweep with the 5-4 victory. Doherty again came up big for the Black & Orange, batting 3-for-3 with two runs scored and a clutch RBI double to spark the three-run eighth.

On the mound Schuberth picked up her seventh and eighth wins of the 2011 season, pitching a complete game shutout in the first, and a four inning, three hit effort in the capper.

With the wins GC softball moves to 13-16 (7-5 SLIAC) on the season.

Greenville softball will return to action tomorrow as they take on Spalding in double-header action. The contests will serve as GC softball Senior Night, with both Lesley Holloway and Sara Mize being honored.
