Steve Beam is Named Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

GREENVILLE, Ill. - Sophomore Steve Beam (St. Louis, Mo./DeSmet) has been named the SLIAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 4-10 for his outstanding defensive performance.

Beam, a center back, anchored the Panthers defense in their 1-0 victory versus Principia College and a 1-1 double overtime draw against Fontbonne University. The Griffins goal was the first goal Greenville's defense has conceded in five conference games this season.

"Steve's defensive organization and ability to maintain defensive shape helped us shut down our opponents' attack," said head coach Brian McMahon. "He was especially strong in his defending one-on-one situations."

This is Beam’s first conference award this season.
