Strike Up the Bands- Two Christmas Concerts to Enjoy

Greenville College’s music department features two different bands in their holiday concerts. Having just returned from their holiday tour to Branson, the Greenville College Jazz Band will share a jazzy, jingly mix of Christmas tunes Thursday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. in Whitlock Music Center. From Vince Guaraldi’s “Christmas Time Is Here” to “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” this can’t-miss concert will leave you bright and cheerful in less than an hour!

The fourth annual Christmas by the Fireside concert is Sunday evening, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. in Whitlock Music Center. The Greenville College Concert Band shares an old fashioned musical event that will set a nostalgic tone for your Advent and Christmas season. Come a little early to explore the nativity scene display featuring a variety of crèches from band members’ personal collections. Emeritus faculty member Dr. Dan Jensen will once again narrate the concert from his chair by the fire. Share the season’s cherished music, including traditional carols as well as fun Christmas songs, and savor the vivid imagery of a scene from Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Be sure to bring your whole family out for this memorable event, enjoy special post-concert refreshments by Robert and Vicki Ellsworth and Huddle House, including a traditional goody bag just for the kids. Savor the sparkling sounds of Christmas, sing along with carols, and settle in for a warm Christmas by the Fireside. The concert will last just over an hour.

Admission to both events is free and open to the public.
