Sutton and Schreder Lead the Way at Evansville

Published: April 13, 2021

EVANSVILLE, Ind. Greenville College was the lone NCAA Division III school competing at the Evansville Invitational Sat Oct. 16. In a field showcasing eight NCAA Division I teams, intimidation was not in the womens vocabulary as they blazed to another record setting performance.

Senior Michelle Sutton (Jackson, Mich./Jackson) and freshman Aubree Schreder (Waterloo, Ind./Waterloo) led the Lady Panthers with dominating performances for the second straight week, battling against 13 teams and 97 runners. For the first time in Greenville College history the womens cross-country team has posted the top two runners in consecutive weeks, and show no sign of slowing down.

Coming into the meet, we just didnt know what to expect, said Coach Brian Patton. We had never ran at Evansville before, but were confident in our ladies, and you cannot say enough about the leadership and talent of Michelle.

Sutton, for the second consecutive week, claimed the number one spot shattering the Greenville College 5k record (18:31) by 13 seconds with her time of 18:18.

Schreder, who again finished second to Sutton, also broke the school record of 18:31, as she finished with a mark of 18:24.

Michelle leads and Aubree follows, remarked Patton. They are both incredibly confident runners, and Aubree knows that she can hang with anyone, even someone who is as good as Michelle. For a freshman that is remarkable.

The women will next travel to Hillsboro, Ill. Sat Oct. 30 to race in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships. The ladies will look to capture their seventh consecutive SLIAC championship, and earn their 15th title in 16 years.
