With the onset of summer comes the prospect for adventure, travel, sightseeing and new experiences down the road or across the globe. Just out, the summer 2014 issue of The RECORD, “Risky Business – Saying Yes to Adventure,” reveals adventure as a tool God uses to draw us closer to Him.

“The God we serve seems to like adventure,” observes President Ivan Filby in his introduction. “Scripture is filled with evidence that He calls His children to risk wealth, reputation, relationships and even their lives to lean on Him as they face the unknown.”

Inside the magazine we learn about adventure learning and equipping GC students for unconventional careers. We also hear from alumni-adventurers about their experiences facing the unknown:

  • A schoolteacher who steered away from conventional thinking about “a woman’s place” in 1954 to carve out an exhilarating life of service in Alaska, America’s “last frontier.”
  • A credit-analyst whose deep-seated passion for motocross led him to trade his bank job for a fulfilling career in the power sports industry.
  • A new retiree who celebrated the milestone in unusual fashion, with a bicycle ride from coast to coast.
  • An “out of the box” thinker and cultural explorer whose joy in discovery spills over into stunning photographs and thoughtful commentary on food and place.

This issue also contains a preview of Homecoming 2014 and the excitement that is just around the corner as we welcome alumni back to campus.
