Volleyball atop SLIAC after Saturday wins

GREENVILLE, Ill. The volleyball team ran their winning streak to three with two wins on Saturday in Greenville. Greenville needed five sets to top Principia in a rematch of the 2013 SLIAC semifinals, and Greenville swept MacMurray in three sets.

It took a come-from-behind effort in the first match to top Principia as Greenville was down by two sets heading into the third. Principia won the first two sets 25-18, 25-22, and Greenville rattled off three straight set wins 25-23, 25-18, 15-13 to win the match.

Allyson Mitchell was Greenvilles offensive leader against Principia, picking up 19 kills and four service aces in five sets. Ellen Lueking posted 44 assists.

Defensively, Greenvilles dig leader was Jamie Schollenbruch with 25. Sierah Ruffner had three solo blocks and two block assists.

Greenville rebounded in the second match of the day, taking a 25-7, 25-10, 25-19 win over MacMurray.

Mitchell posted another solid offensive outing, collecting 16 kills. Lueking tallied 21 assists, and Kirsten Laune had 15 assists.

Ruffner recorded six service aces and three block assists.

Schollenbruch and Nicole Schaeffer each had nine digs.

The Lady Panthers (7-4, 2-0 SLIAC) host Washington St. Louis on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
