Volleyball picks up huge road win

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The SLIAC leading Greenville volleyball team went to Webster on Thursday and returned home with a four-set victory that put them squarely in the driver's seat for a share of their fifth consecutive SLIAC title. Freshman Allyson Mitchell was a force with 16 kills and one service ace.

Greenville dropped the first set 25-16 but came storming back to capture three straight sets 25-23, 25-21, 25-23 for the win.

Sierah Ruffner produced 13 kills and one block assist to contribute 13 1/2 points to Greenville's effort.

The Lady Panther defense was led by Jamie Schollenbruch with 26 digs. Nicole Schaeffer came up with 16 digs, one solo block, and two block assists.

Marissa Erwin produced one solo block and three block assists.

Kirsten Laune added two service aces.

As she has all year, Ellen Lueking again led Greenville in assists with 49.

Overall, the Lady Panthers hit at a nearly 15% clip with 55 kills and 28 errors in 182 attempts.

Greenville (21-7, 15-1 SLIAC) travels to Spalding on Saturday as they attempt to clinch the outright SLIAC league championship.
