Five Volleyball Players Nab Post-Season Honors and Ackerman Receives Coach of the Year

GREENVILLE, Ill.--Corinne Coon, Jamie Schollenbruch, Ellen Lueking, Nicole Schaeffer, and Amanda Muelberg were all recognized for SLIAC post-season honors. Head coach, Tom Ackerman, was also named SLIAC Coach of the Year.

Corinne Coon was named to the SLIAC First Team All-Conference for her outstanding performance this season. Coon, a senior from Warsaw, Ill., averaged 3.81 kills per set and finished 2013 with 389 total kills. She was second in the SLIAC in both of these categories. Her impressive play this season also earned her four SLIAC Offensive Player of the Week awards.

GC sophomore, Jamie Schollenbruch, also earned herself a spot on the SLIAC First Team. The Decatur, Ill. native was third in Conference in total digs, recording 545, and she averaged 5.19 per set. Schollenbruch nabbed SLIAC Defensive Player of the Week three times this season.

Junior, Ellen Lueking was a member of the SLIAC Second Team All-Conference. The Panthers' setter was second in the SLIAC in both assists and assists per set, with 1024 and 9.85, respectively.

Nicole Schaeffer joined Lueking on the SLIAC Second Team. The junior outside hitter had a great season, recording 287 kills, 989 total attacks, and 340 digs. Schaeffer averaged 2.76 kills per set and 3.1 points per set. Schaeffer was also named to the 2013 SLIAC Volleyball All-Tournament Team.

Amanda Muehlberg earned a spot on the SLIAC All-Sportsmanship Team for her positivity and dedication to her team.

Coach Ackerman received the coveted SLIAC Coach of the year award, leading his team to a 24-7 (17-1 SLIAC) record in 2013. Ackerman earned his 200th career win on September 28 when GC swept Principia 3-0. This year marks the fourth time Ackerman has been given this prestigious honor.
