Volleyball Splits Opening Matches

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The volleyball team competed Friday at Washington University and picked up a victory and defeat.

In it's first match, Greenville lost 25-23, 25-13, 25-20 to No. 11 Washington University.

Allyson Mitchell, Nicole Schaeffer, and Joelle Scholten picked up five kills each, and Kirsten Laune had 12 assists.

Greenville's defensive efforts were led by Jamie Schollenbruch with 15 digs. Savannah Sells and Marissa Erwin produced two block assists.

Greenville's second match saw them defeat Loras in five sets. The teams rotated set wins but Greenville won the decisive fifth set 15-10.

Mitchell led Greenville's offense with 17 kills. Ellen Lueking tallied 27 assists.

Schollenbruch was active on the defensive side with 35 digs. Sierah Ruffner had six block assists.

The Lady Panthers (1-1) face Nebraska Wesleyan on Saturday in St. Louis.
