Women's basketball slips against Westminster

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- The women's basketball team suffered a 63-55 defeat at the hands of Westminster on Wednesday in their Coaches vs Cancer night at H.J. Long Gymnasium. Greenville held an 11 point but saw it slip away in the fourth quarter.

Laura Goodnight came off the bench to lead Greenville scorers with 15 points. Missy Deal contributed 12 points.

Greenville saw themselves at the free throw line just five times as they converted 3-of-5. Westminster recorded an 11-of-15 mark at the free throw line.

The teams were even at 14-14 after the first quarter, and Westminster entered halftime with a 29-26 lead. Greenville controlled the third period, outscoring the Blue Jays by a 23-13 margin, but the Lady Panthers could only score six points in the final periods as Westminster exploded for 21.

The Lady Panthers (12-6, 8-3 SLIAC) now sit in third place in the conference standings, leading into a contest at Blackburn on Saturday at 1 p.m.
