Women's cross country well represented in SLIAC postseason awards

GREENVILLE, Ill. -- After securing their 15th conference championship, members of the women's cross country team and the team collectively was honored with conference awards.

The Panthers were led by junior Molly Works and a trio of freshmen as they finished the race with 41 team points. Works took third place with a time of 23:29. The Panthers then had three freshmen place in the top 10, giving them four runners in the top ten finishers. Jordie File took sixth place with a time of 24:16 while Brooke Goodyear came in just behind at 24:25. Krissy Finley finished ninth with a time of 24:53.

Works, File, and Goodyear earned spots on the all-conference first team, while Finley took second team honors.

Mallory Wendling was Greenville's selection to the all-sportsmanship team.

Head coach Brian Patton took the women's cross country coach of the year award. marking his 10th selection and first since 2005. One of Patton's assistant coaches was given the award in 2006 and 2007, and the Greenville coaching staff was chosen for the award in 2008 and 2009.

The team as a whole was given the sportsmanship trophy as the team displaying the highest level of sportsmanship among the participating schools.

The Lady Panthers run in the Panther trials on Friday and compete in the NCAA regional at Wisconsin - Oshkosh on Saturday, Nov. 15.
