SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- The women's soccer team earned a 2-2 tie at Benedictine - Springfield on Tuesday. Lady Panther goals were posted by Mackenzie Burris and Kency Lopez.

Burris opened up the scoring 34 minutes into the game with a shot to the corner after a pass from Barbara Nigro.

Greenville finished the half pressuring for a second goal.

The second half was much of the same as both teams were evenly matched with several opportunities for both sides. Benedictine evened the match in the 81st minute and then scored again a minute later to take a 2-1 advantage.

Greenville showed heart and answered two minutes later with a nice goal by Kency Lopez.

With the game moving to overtime, Greenville pushed hard for the game winner and had the better of play with two shots being cleared off the line in the 108th minute

For the game, Benedictine outshot Greenville 20-18 with both teams having 10 shots on goal. In the two overtimes, shots were 5-2 in Greenvilles favor.

"This was a very important match for us to be in tonight," said head coach Jeff Wardlaw. "Benedictine is a good side that had beaten a couple teams that we had lost to earlier in the year."

"I was extremely pleased with the heart and grit that we showed tonight and to be fair we were a bit unlucky not to get the win. It showed us a lot about ourselves heading into conference play this weekend."

The Lady Panthers (0-7-1) will open SLIAC play Saturday at Spalding.
