Women's tennis splits opening matches at SLIAC tournament

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The women's tennis team competed Friday at the SLIAC tournament. They picked up a 5-0 win in their quarterfinal match against Blackburn before falling 5-0 to Principia in the semifinal.

Greenville's players all won their singles matches in the quarterfinals, headlined by No. 1 Lexi Baysinger and No. 5 Emily Rauch who won 6-1, 6-0.

No. 2 Lezlie Friedline, No. 4 Emilie Britt, and No. 6 Gianna Paden also obtained straight set wins.

The semifinal matchup with Principia saw the Lady Panthers defeated in three doubles matches and No. 1 and No. 2 singles as the match ended after five matches.

The No. 2 doubles team of Amanda Scott and Abby Maurer lost 8-4, and No. 6 Gianna Paden played a tough first set, falling 7-5 and was down 2-1 in the second set when the match was called.

The Lady Panthers (5-8) face Westminster in the third place match on Saturday.
