Women's Track and Field Earns Fifth at Illinois College

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. -- The women's track and field team featured two champions as they accrued 63 points in their fifth place finish at Illinois College.

Chelsea Gilles (photographed) won the 400 meter dash with a time just over one minute (1:00.87), topping Nora Kueny of NCAA Division II Truman State by three hundredths of a second. Gilles was also third in the 200 with a time of 27.36 seconds.

Winner Maggie McMurtrey threw the weight 15.33 meters to outdistance teammate Ali Potthast who placed second with a throw of 13.38 meters.

The 4x200 meter relay was second, posting a time of 1:49.53.

A top three finish was also posted by Greenville's distance medley team who completed the race in 14:10.05.

In other action on the weekend, Taylor Brunner competed in the Pentathlon at Illinois Wesleyan and totaled 3,126 points to rank third.

The women return to action Saturday at Monmouth.
