JACKSONVILLE, Ill. The strong first half play of host MacMurray College dished the Panthers another SLIAC loss on Saturday as they fell in a 65-56 defensive battle in Jacksonville.

Junior guard Laura Hobbie used a 3-for-4 shooting performance from behind the arc to help pace the Panthers in the loss. Hobbie posted a game-high 21 points while adding eight boards. Fellow junior Katelyn Wise netted 17 points while snagging seven rebounds to add aid in the tough conference defeat.

Greenville found themselves down early, shooting only 36% from the floor in the first frame while hitting only 1-of-5 from the line. The Highlanders of MacMurray used a 4-for-7 effort from long distance to help deliver the Panthers a nine-point, 33-24 halftime deficit.

Second half action displayed a tightly contested battle, as both teams matched effort and production. Greenville surged to within six at the ten-minute mark but neither squad surrendered significant runs as the two conference foes posted 32 points in the half. The first period margin of nine that MC served Greenville proved to be the final spread, as the Panthers were eventually dropped 65-56.

MacMurray was led by both junior Whittney Wade and senior Fionnaula Toner in the tilt. The guard combo dropped in 20 points apiece while combining for seven of the Highlanders 14 team assists.

GC womens basketball drops to 2-5 (0-2 SLIAC) after Saturday afternoons contest, and will look to bet back on track Tuesday, December 6 as they go on the road and battle North Park at 6:00 pm.
