Women’s Preview: Panthers Look to Rebound in 2010-11

GREENVILLE, Ill. After a 2009-10 season that ended in a 8-17 record, the Greenville College womens basketball team will rely on the experience of the returning women and the new faces on the squad to propel them back to the top of the SLIAC.
The Panthers, who are picked to finish 6th in the SLIAC in 2010-11, return 11 ladies from last years campaign, including all five starters.
Greenville will be led by standout sophomore center Katelyn Wise (Rochester, Ill./Rochester). Wise, who posted 12.4 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game, received SLIAC Honorable Mention honors for her efforts last season. Wise will be a force inside, and will provide constant stability at the post-position.
The Panther frontcourt will showcase several talented guards, highlighted by sophomore Laura Hobbie (Vandalia, Ill./Vandalia). Hobbie, who contributed nearly ten points per game while shooting 33 percent from behind the arc last season, gives the Panthers the ability to stretch the floor, and offers a consistent shooting option.
The 2010-11 Lady Panthers will also look to some new faces for contribution this season. Guard Emmalee Fladland and forward Julia Hale, both junior transfers from Nebraska junior college, and forward Amy Radford, a sophomore transfer from Milliken University, will see significant minutes and add to the Panthers depth.
We are picked to finish 6th out of the 9 teams in our conference, but I think we have to consider ourselves a top four team in the SLIAC, states Head Coach Roy Mulholland. One of our goals is to find a consistent work level and play at that level all of the time. If we do this, and everyone can accept their role on the team, we have a great shot to be really good this year.
The Lady Panthers have put together a challenging schedule, and will start their season Tuesday, Nov. 16, as they travel to St. Louis, Mo. to take on the Eutectics of St. Louis Pharmacy.
