Women’s Softball Struggles Against Fontbonne

Published: April 13, 2021

ST. LOUIS, Mo. Greenville College Softball dropped two games Thursday night as they were swept by SLIAC counterpart Fontbonne University 3-0, 10-2 in St. Louis. The hot Griffins (winning 10 of their last 11) were too much to handle and dealt GC the pair of conference losses.

In the opener, the Griffins got a dominating pitching performance from sophomore Kourtney VonBehren who threw seven shutout innings for the complete game victory. VonBehren gave up just three hits while striking out nine of the Lady Panthers.

In game two, Fontbonne jumped on Greenville early and never let up. The Griffins scored nine runs in the first three innings to cruise to a 10-2 victory.

GC Softball will return to the diamond on Monday, April 18, as they Beat Cancer With A Bat and join hands with the National Foundation for Cancer Research to participate in a national yearlong campaign. The campaign invites softball teams around the country to commit to donating the proceeds of at least one game during their season to NFCR.

Monday will showcase a double-header on the campus of GC at Lady Panther Field against MacMurray College, with game one starting at 3:15 pm and game two scheduled for 5:15 pm.
