Honors Program - McAllaster Scholar Events

0

McAllaster Scholars are a community of friends. We take classes together, but we also spend time together outside of the classroom. Many McAllaster Scholars testify that their closest college friendships were formed in the honors community.

Each year, the McAllaster Scholars sponsor a number of extracurricular events to nourish friendships and celebrate our work together. The academic year is bookended by two "threshold" events. At the beginning of Fall semester, we welcome new McAllaster Scholars into our community at an Introduction Ceremony on GC's campus. Parents of the Freshman Scholars attend this celebration of a new beginning. Then, at the end of the Spring semester, we celebrate the achievements of graduating McAllaster Scholars at a Thesis Reception. Graduating Scholars and their parents gather with the rest of the McAllaster Scholars and the faculty who have served on Departmental Honors Project committees to hear about the exciting research projects that our seniors have completed.

Our other major event is the Annual McAllaster Lecture, which is given each Fall semester by a celebrated Christian scholar. The event is open to the public and is one of the major academic events of the year at Greenville College.

In addition to these major events, we gather frequently to share food and conversation at our "hangout spot," the GC Alumni House.
