Undergraduate - Illinois MAP Grant Action Plan

The MAP Grant Matters

Over 300 of our students depend upon their MAP grants to attend Greenville University each year. Many college and university students at GU and across the state rely on the Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grant to afford tuition. Unfortunately, the State of Illinois hasn't funded the MAP grant for this current year.

Let's Save the MAP Grant

There is hope that the State of Illinois will pass the budget for MAP grants. In conjunction with the Senate delivering SB 2043 to the Governor’s desk, we are planning activities around bringing students to Springfield (Capitol) on February 16.

Governor Rauner has indicated that he will veto this bill - but we are joining other colleges and universities across the state to contact Governor Rauner, asking him to fund MAP grants and sign SB 2043.

We invite you to joining our requests for MAP grant funding - for the sake of Greenville University students and students across Illinois.

Illinois Grant Action Plan

Because of the current State of Illinois budget crisis, the state is withholding the payment of student Monetary Award Program (MAP) Grants. Students normally receive this aid directly from the State of Illinois with Greenville University doing some behind-the-scenes work to ensure it gets applied to student bills in a timely fashion. However, this year because of Illinois’ budget crisis, this grant is in jeopardy.

We’ve been lobbying state officials on our students’ behalf for months as this situation has unfolded, but we’ve heard from legislators that while they have heard from institutions, they have yet to hear from students and parents. So, now is the time for you to contact your representatives and ask that they act to move the payment of your MAP Grant forward.

How You Can Help

Join us in contacting Governor Rauner and our Illinois State Representatives - let's ask them to keep the state's promise to fund the MAP grants.

We've created a sample email text (below) that can be customized and pasted into an email to Governor Rauner and your representatives.
