Alumni Committed to Strengthening Bonds with Students

Published: April 13, 2021

In a day when the value of networking continues to soar, members of the Greenville College Alumni Board want students and new graduates to think about connections and community that already exist in GCs own backyard: alumni.

Strengthening student-alumni connections dominated much of the boards discussion during its fall meeting on Saturday, September 14. Here are some highlights:

100% participation All 27 members of the board were present. They represent seven decades of GC graduates, various geographic locations throughout the U.S. and diversity in professions including human relations, investment firms, microbiology, higher education and social work.

Search to maximize connections Board members primarily explored how alumni can effectively link new graduates with employers who need their skills, prospective students with the College, and alumni with other alumni in their locale.

Belief-into-action Board members committed $3500 in personal gifts to raise student awareness of GCs Alumni Association, particularly in graduating seniors. Similar funding last year covered the cost of Almost Alumni events that included:

  • An open coffee bar at Jos Java
  • Life After College panel discussion and dinner
  • Pizza with the president casual conversation with GCs president in eight different residence halls and upper division houses just prior to graduation
  • We Survived COR 401 Ice Cream Bash
  • Faculty-Senior Breakfast
  • Almost Alumni BBQ

Renewed commitment The board also welcomed President Ivan Filby, who introduced himself by way of personal stories and shared his vision and direction for the College. Board members renewed their commitment to working with President Filby in engaging alumni and communicating the value of the GC experience.
