Baseball Comes from Behind to Beat Principia

ELSAH, Ill. The Greenville College baseball team opened their last series of the regular season at Principia on Friday, May 2. The Panthers were down early but ended up taking a 10-7 victory.

The game was scoreless until the third inning when Mitchell Cernek hit his second home run of the season to give Greenville a short-lived lead. Principia answered in the bottom of the third with a run of their own.

In the next inning, Principia exploded on offensive for six runs. They were up 7-1 going into the sixth when Greenville came back to score seven. The sixth inning included an RBI double from Dalton McFarland, RBI singles from Dathan Berning and Cernek, and a two-run single from Jared Storment.

In the eighth inning, Tim Osborne hit a home run, and in the ninth inning, Jared Souhrada added a RBI single.

Jason Collingwood was the winning pitcher in relief. He threw 2 1/3 innings with one hit allowed and two strikeouts in raising his record to 3-0. Nick Bifano collected his 11th save of the season when he held Principia scoreless with 1 1/3 innings of relief.

C.J. Opp was Greenvilles starting pitcher, completing 3 2/3 innings and permitting seven runs, six earned, on four hits and four walks. He struck out three in the no decision.
