Baseball Drops Twinbill to Dickinson

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The baseball team was defeated by Dickinson in two games on Thursday. The Panthers lost game one 5-2 and then dropped game two 4-3 on a game-winning double.

Greenville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first game as Mitchell Cernek opened with a lead-off single and a stolen base. Tyler Whitworth followed with an RBI single and took second as Dickinson tried to gun out Cernek at the plate. After Whitworth stole third, Tim Osborne drove him in with a single.

Dickinson answered with a run in the second and posted four runs in the top of the sixth for the win.

Dillon Reel threw 5 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. He struck out one and walked two in picking up the loss. Nick Bifano allowed two runs (one earned) and struck out two in 1 2/3 innings.

Dalton McFarland and Dathan Berning also added hits for Greenville.

In game two, Dickinson struck first with a run in the home half of the first inning, but Greenville posted a three run third inning to take the lead. Osborne doubled to drive in Cernek, and Whitworth and Osborne scored when the Dickinson centerfielder dropped Jared Storment's fly ball.

Dickinson posted two runs in the bottom of the fourth, and they won the game in the bottom of the seventh on a game-winning double by centerfielder Ryan Dolan.

Tyler Pilcher pitched a complete game for Greenville, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing one earned run on four hits. He struck out three and walked two.

Campbell Albert and C.J. Opp added base hits.

The Panthers (2-5) continue their season Friday against Rockford in Lakeland, Fla., at 11 a.m.
