Published: April 13, 2021

ELSAH, Ill.-- The GC baseball team beat Principia in both games of the double-header, winning 7-5 and 12-4. The wins improved the Panthers' Conference record to 7-11.

In the first game, GC fell behind early, allowing Principia to get a 2-0 lead in the first inning. Fortunately, the Panthers scored runs in the next three innings and took the 6-2 lead heading into the fifth. GC added another run in the game's final inning. Principia answered by scoring two runs in the seventh inning, but it was not enough and GC took the 7-5 victory.

Cody Hinterscher and Nick Bifano shared the mound for Greenville. Hinterscher faced 28 batters in the 6 innings he pitched and allowed three hits and four runs. Bifano faced four batters and gave up two hits and a run.

Dalton McFarland and Ryan Smith each hit a double for Greenville. McFarland, Smith, Dathan Berning, and Tyler Pilcher all had RBI for the Panthers.

In the second game of the double-header, GC came out on top once again. This time it was Greenville who recorded runs first, with GC putting two on the board early in the second inning. Although Principia fought to stage a come-back, they could not stop GC's impressive hitting. Greenville recorded 5 runs in the eighth and another two in the ninth, ending the game with a score of 12-4, GC.

These wins bring Greenville's record to 10-19 overall (7-11 SLIAC). The team will take the field again on April 26 at 3:00pm when they travel to Eureka for another SLIAC match-up.
