Baseball picks up doubleheader split with Westminster

FULTON, Mo. -- The baseball team shutout Westminster 1-0 in game one and fell 8-1 in game two in a doubleheader split Friday.

Game one saw Ryan Strohm, a transfer from Westminster, hold the Blue Jays at bay over 6.1 shutout innings. Strohm struck out four and only permitted three hits. Nick Bifano collected his sixth save.

Greenville scored in the top of the third when Tim Osborne hit an RBI single.

Mike Hardin went 2-for-4 for Greenville, scoring its only run.

Westminster controlled game two from the outset, adding a run in the first, third, and fourth innings to take a 3-0 lead. Greenville made it a 3-1 game in the top of the fifth, but Westminster added two runs in the bottom of the fifth and three in the seventh.

Greenville's hits were obtained by Hardin, Josh Wheeler, and Max Gabriel.

C.J. Opp was the losing pitcher as he threw three innings and gave up three runs on four hits.

The Panthers (18-17) travel to Washington - St. Louis for a Saturday doubleheader.
